ZURICH -- The number of violent incidents involving right- wing extremists in Switzerland has already doubled to 105 this year, the Zurich newspaper Sonntagszeitung reported Sunday. The report, citing unpublished police figures comparing 2000 with 1999, said that membership in extremist groups was also on the rise. Most of the 800 Swiss citizens registered by the federal police as right-wing extremists were between 16 and 22 years of age.
These people were more willing than ever before to resort to violence, the report noted. In view of this situation, Switzerland's commission against racism is to set up a national hot line for victims of racist attacks.
